The Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge is also know as the Willamette River Railroad Bridge and the Saint Johns Railroad Bridge.

It was built in 1908.

Of all 11 bridges that span the Willametter River in Portland city limits, this is the ONLY bridge that is soley for train use.

I had gone into bridge #2 with some hesitation and pretty low standards... I mean after all, this bridge is strictly for trains. No need to make this bridge aesthetically pleasing! On the contrary. I found this bridge to be the perfect interpretation of the classic, rustic rail bridge I had been looking for. This bridge is surprisingly busy serving both freight and passenger trains. However, it was pretty difficult to get down to this bridge as there are currently no open roads leading directly to it- but the city of Portland has purchased land right next to the bridge that is intended to be a City Park in years to come :)

Oh! And BONUS! This bridge still has a view of my favorite: The Saint Johns Bridge from Adventure One. Win.

I had to go back for another look at this beauty. We strolled the sidewalk running all the way along the length of the bridge... We only made it about one quarter of the way. Just far enough for me to get close and personal :) We took a little stroll through the streets of Saint John's "downtown..." And found this sweet brick building. :)

I had never heard of the Shipwreck of Peter Iredale until recently and couldn't resist the temptation... The ship was traveling towards the Columbia River in 1906 when a strom blew it in to shore and caused a wreckage. Much of the metal was sold for scrap, but this small bit of the ship remains imbedded in the sand. Needless to say... a shipwreck and a little sunshine was the perfect way to spend Superbowl Sunday. :)
